Summer research programs provides undergraduates early exposure to research by matching them with faculty mentors in their area of interest. These experiences also allow undergraduates to become familiar with the life of a graduate student at a large university. Students participate in weekly seminars and social, cultural, and educational activities that are shared with similar programs on each campus such as the MSA (Mathematical Sciences Alliance) and VIGRE at the University of Iowa, and the George Washington Carver program at Iowa State University. Students present their projects at the Summer Research Symposiums during their final week of the program.
Typically summer programs take place from early June to late July of each year.
To be eligible for the summer research program, you must meet the following requirements:
- U.S. citizenship or permanent residency
- Member of an ethnic minority group - African American, Latina/o, Native American, Native Hawaiian, or other Pacific Islander
- A cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
- Classified as a junior or non-graduating senior; sophomores who have completed two years will also be considered
- Pursuing an undergraduate degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics
